Storage advice & tips
Do I need to bring my own lock?
Each storage unit/room has its own key, which we provide after initial payment is received.
Are my contents insured?
No, this is for you to arrange.
What type of security do you have at Portals Storage?
Two sets of electric gates, CCTV and double entrance doors, both of which are locked.
What hours can I access my self storage unit?
Downstairs/garage units 50m2–150m2 in size benefit from 24-hour access, while all other smaller units have access by appointment.
What are your office hours?
We are open 7 days a week from 8am-8pm.
If I don't require a unit for a full month, is it prorated?
No. Rental periods are for a full month, but not necessarily a calendar month. So, if you rent on the 10th of the month then your rent is due on the 10th of each month.
What happens if I don't pay for my storage unit on time?
You will be locked out of your storage unit if rent is not paid by the due date. Its lock will not be removed until the rent and late fees are paid in full. If rent is not paid for 60 days, the contents are removed and sold.
Are there things I cannot store in my unit?
- Hazardous materials – items that are flammable, corrosive, or explosive should never be stored.
- Plants.
- Food – please do not store food items as these attract rodents and insects.
Do I need to put rodent control in my unit?
Yes. Mice and other rodents can get into anywhere! I’m sure you have had them in your home. We do put mouse control in every empty unit, but once you rent a unit you are responsible for putting mouse control in as we no longer have access to your secure storage space.
